Alicia Russell commented on Seth Merriam's article: I like the way you laid out both the features you like in the iPhoto app, and what is missing, and should perhaps be in the next version. Love the dog pictures!

Alicia Russell commented on David Wicks's article: I like the way you grouped these "ubiquitous" (across all devices) apps for teaching and learning, described why they are valuable, and gave specific suggestions for their use.

Can't attend AcademiX 2010 in person? Here are some suggestions for making the most of the online conference. Please add others!   1. Register for the webcast at http://academix.maclearning.org 2. Block out the time (Friday May 14, 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. PDT) on your calendar. 3. Work from home - OR - 4. Join colleagues, either from your institution or another, and tune into the conference together - OR - 5. Go to your favorite coffee shop for a social conference atmosphere: "not only can you put on some headphones and relax, but you've got access to conference goodie substitutes…coffee, good munchies." - OR - 6. If you are in an open office environment, hang a sign around your neck: "I'm attending the AcademiX Conference Online. Please don’t disturb! Want to join me? Go to http://academix.maclearning.org/"   Please add other suggestions for attending AcademiX Online!

in the topic Math in online discussions/online learning in the forum All Things Considered
We are interested in finding solutions for a math faculty member interested in having students post math problems in an online discussion board. He would also like a way to respond to their questions. Here are some of our ideas.Possible solutions:1. Have students write math question on paper, then take photo of the question and post it to the LMS (could use camera in phone, or onlaptop,or web cam). 2. Have student write question on paper and then scan it (scanners are available in the campus library) Videos of math instructorHave math instructor create video of himself talking through problem as he writes it on a whiteboard (or onpaper).  Possibly do this weekly with particularly difficult problems. You can do this with the 10.6 screen recording software - which is built in to the newest Quicktime. (Open it and you see screen record under the file menu) Make a video archive of these either in the CMS or via the university'sYouTube Channel. With Blackboard, it's easy to upload and the file be "syndicated" so students can subscribe to them as though it is a podcast. We are purchasing a bamboo pen to allow the instructor to write solutions to problems and upload them to the discussion board.Any other ideas?
