I'm sure that Apple will come along with the "official" recording of this event in due time but since I recorded it using ScreenFlow for my colleagues in Georgia, I thought that it might be of interest here as well.  Thus, take a look at:

David Wicks Looks promising Frank. I've been looking for a way to create good screencasts for apps. It would be nice to see the touch gestures but I can live with this for now.

David Wicks I bought Reflection and I really like it. You are able to have both your iPhone and iPad open at the same time so you can create screencasts showing how an app works differently (or the same) on both devices. Very cool. Thanks again for sharing Frank!

On my campus, the wired and wireless networks are separate and there is a firewall between them that blocks some/all of these ports. Thus, I could not use my desktop machine.

      Hi Frank,
      Just curious…you say:
Traditionally, it is the esteem in which the journal or publisher is held that determines the value assigned to the work. A textbook published by one publisher may be rated lower than a textbook published by another recognized commercial publisher.
I wonder…might not that eventually be broken by student and peer recognition online? I have little doubt that what you say is true at the moment. But my suspicion is that eTextbook authors will have access to the same sorts of analytics that iOS app authors do now. Nothing says "recognition" more than ten or a hundred thousand downloads. In other words, if fifty thousand students of all flavors download an eTextbook, it might be reasonable to assume that that represented its use in hundreds of bona fide courses. :)
While the iBookstore cannot give peer recognition (and Apple's recognition might not count for much in the academe), do you think that once pioneering souls put content in the iBookstore, that online ad-hoc groups w...    less

However, it is still the case that only one person can be active in editing an iTunes U site at one time. The challenge, then, is how a moderate number of contributors can coordinate their access to an institution's site. Using external feeds may be one source of some relief but that may not be enough.

Yes, Calibre has a usable ePub reader built-in plus it makes a mighty fine OPDS server if you have a fixed IP and access through your institution's firewall. You can do OPDS via DropBox, too, but the DropBox solutions I've seen so far are not as good as what Calibre can do. Another WebKit option is Ibis Reader from Threepress Consulting which is constantly being improved. Still, iBooks is my preferred test bench since it supports, audio, video and Javascript to some as yet unknown degree.

Regarding the need for an ePub reader comparable to iBooks on MacOS X, I second that emotion. Currently, ePub is the only media type supported by the iTunes.app and iTunes U that cannot be "played" directly or indirectly (a la PDF) via the iTunes.app. That needs to change. In the interim, one must sync to iBooks on iOS in order to get good feedback on one's writing. Perhaps iCloud will provide some relief but I really think that nothing less than an app will do. My MO requires rapid switching between the views of content creator and content consumer. There is also the EPUBReader plug-in for Firefox, calibre and the Sigil and Adobe Digital Editions apps. Those alternatives don't yet support audio, video, etc. but the finalization of EPUB 3 should change that or at least I hope that it will.
